Ghazia Popalzia is an Associate Attorney at Kakar Advocates focusing on Contracts, Banking, Trade, Taxation, and Employment and Labor. She has also developed a broad knowledge of Dispute Resolution Mechanisms, specifically Arbitration.
Ghazia Popalzai holds L.L.M in International Commercial Law from the Swansea University of the United Kingdom and L.L.B from the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF).
Ms. Popalzai has worked with prominent national and international organizations since 2014. In her previous role as an Associate Attorney at a private law firm, she advised clients on commercial matters and contracts. She has also received trainings on arbitration at the national and international level and acted as a Trainer Arbitrator at the Afghanistan Center for Commercial Dispute Resolution. Ms. Popalzai has worked as a Legal Researcher, Program Officer in the rule of law projects, and Coach Trainer with several reputable organizations as well.
Ms. Popalzai has contributed to multiple prominent articles and research papers widely published. She co-authored a research paper on “Gravity Threshold of International Criminal Court” published in Max Plank Yearbook of UN Law in 2017. She also contributed to Doing Business 2020 report conducted by the World Bank. During her stay at The Hague, the Netherlands in 2017, Ms. Popalzai attended a court hearing on Genocide and War Crimes in the International Criminal Court.
Aside from her professional experience, Ms. Popalzai was involved in many volunteer and extra-curriculum activities during her academic years at AUAF. She participated in many national and international debate tournaments winning two championship awards. She also represented her university in the Bangkok International Debate Championship in Thailand in 2016. Subsequently, she acted as the vice president of Debate at AUAF and organized two national debate tournaments. She was a member of the team in the International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition in 2016-2017 held in The Hague, Netherlands. She then trained and managed the National Criminal Court Moot Court Competitions in Afghanistan for two consecutive years.
Ms. Popalzai has received a high honor award from AUAF President for her outstanding performance and high marks in classes.
