The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum Strengthens Management of Mining and Construction Materials
The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) has introduced a new policy for the extraction of construction materials such as limestone, sand, and gravel. The Ministry has added steps to licensing and extraction processes to control illegal mining and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
Under the new policy, companies must obtain a government permit before extracting materials, and all businesses engaged in mining must submit environmental impact assessments before beginning operations. The Ministry will regularly inspect mining sites to ensure compliance. Unauthorized mining is prohibited and subject to legal penalties, including fines and confiscation of materials.
